The Feast of the Ascension of Jesus Christ also known as the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord

The Feast of the Ascension of Jesus Christ, also known as the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord, Ascension Day, Ascension Thursday, or occasionally Holy Thursday, honors the Christian belief in the physical Ascension of Jesus into Heaven. This significant event is one of the ecumenical feasts recognized by various Christian denominations, holding a place alongside the feasts of the Passion and Pentecost.

According to Acts 1:3, the risen Jesus made appearances for 40 days before his Ascension, which is why Ascension Day is traditionally observed on a Thursday, marking the fortieth day of Easter when counted inclusively. However, some Christian groups have opted to celebrate it on the following Sunday, often referred to as Ascension Sunday. The specific day of observance can differ among ecclesiastical provinces within many Christian denominations, such as Lutherans and Catholics, for instance.

In 2025, Ascension Day will be celebrated on Thursday, May 29th. This Christian holiday commemorates the Ascension of Jesus Christ into Heaven, taking place 40 days after Easter Sunday.
